Practical Electronics: From Circuits to Chips
Learn how electricity is harnessed, amplified, and programmed to power modern hardware. Explore real-world circuits from basic LEDs and transistors up to microcontrollers, op-amps, and commercial silicon chips.
Like Duolingo, but for Practical Electronics: From Circuits to Chips. Tomo turns the whole topic into a game you play five minutes a day, until it actually sticks.
26 levels across 4 sections, about 52 minutes end to end, roughly 10 days at five minutes a day. It moves through Getting Current to Flow and Behave, Switching and Amplifying Signals, Bringing Circuits to Life with Code, and From Prototype to Production Systems. It starts from scratch.

Key ideas in Practical Electronics: From Circuits to Chips
- Current requires a continuous, unbroken path from positive to negative terminals to flow
- A disconnected return wire creates an open circuit where zero current can travel
- Power does not pool in or push through a component without an exit path
- Resistors restrict the volume of electrical current that can pass through a branch
- Without resistance, excessive current overheats and destroys sensitive components like LEDs
- Adding a resistor in the loop chokes down the current to a safe working level
- LEDs are directional and only permit current to pass in one direction
- The longer lead (anode) must connect toward the positive supply, and the shorter lead (cathode) toward ground/negative
- Reversing an LED blocks current entirely rather than glowing in reverse
- Electricity takes the path of least resistance back to the power supply
- Bypassing the load creates a near-zero resistance bridge called a short circuit
- Short circuits cause a huge, dangerous surge of current that generates rapid heat and can damage wires or power sources
- Voltage is a difference between two points, measured in parallel across a part
- Current is the rate of flow through a path, so the meter must become part of the loop in series
- Placing an ammeter in parallel creates an accidental short circuit
- A standard diode only allows current to flow in one direction
You've tried the other tabs
Thirty open tabs. Four facts you actually kept.
You watched. You nodded. By Sunday it was gone.
One answer, then back to scrolling.
Eight weeks. You meant to finish. You didn't.
Tomo gives Practical Electronics: From Circuits to Chips the Duolingo treatment: levels, streaks, and quick quizzes that test what you just learned. That game loop is what the tabs above never had, so it's the one you actually finish.
